Latest official application window

The Immigration Bureau's current English announcement and Thai counterpart, both checked on 1 August 2026, concern the 2025 quota year. They set the filing period at 9 March through 3 April 2026. That window has passed; this page does not predict the next opening.

The same announcements set a maximum of 100 people of each nationality and 50 stateless people. A quota is a ceiling, not a promise that every place will be filled or that an eligible application will be approved.

Baseline eligibility

The Immigration Bureau's current English detailed guidance linked from the latest annual announcement, checked on 29 August 2026, says an applicant must hold a passport bearing a Non-Immigrant visa and have annual extensions showing at least three consecutive years of permitted stay through the application date. The annual notice and category-specific checklist still control the actual filing.

Official application categories

The reopened English and Thai guidance lists these categories:

For the humanity category, the guidance names a legal spouse, a legal parent, or an unmarried child under 20 years on the submission date. It does not list retirement as a stand-alone category.

Interview and checks

The English guidance says applicants and relevant people receive an interview appointment, and the applicant's interview includes a Thai-language speaking and listening test. Applicants aged 14 or older undergo the described criminal-record and watch-list checks. These are parts of the assessment, not guarantees of approval.

Who decides and how long it takes

The Immigration Commission considers the application, with final approval by the Minister of Interior. The official guidance says consideration timing varies by year according to Commission and Ministry policy; it does not promise a fixed processing timeline.

Where applications are filed

The latest notice says Bangkok applicants file at the specified Immigration Bureau office at the Government Complex, while applicants in other provinces may file at the Immigration office for their area of residence or the nearest Immigration office. Applicants must follow the live notice and the office's instructions; this page does not designate Jomtien as the decision-making office or promise a local test centre.

Documents are category-specific

The general guidance requires personal submission with the documents for the chosen category and all passports. It also warns that foreign-language documents must follow its certification and Thai-translation requirements and that false documents or statements are criminal offences. Use the current annual checklist for your category rather than a universal list copied from another route.

Application and residence-permit fees

The current Immigration guidance checked 29 August 2026 lists a THB 7,600 non-refundable application fee, whether the application is approved or not. If residence is approved, it lists a further THB 191,400 residence-permit fee.

The same guidance lists a reduced THB 95,700 residence-permit fee for the qualifying spouse or child under 20 of a Thai citizen or of a foreign national who already holds permanent residence. The reduced amount is not a general family discount, and these figures should be rechecked against the next annual notice before filing.

Is Thailand's permanent-residence application window open now?

Are three annual extensions enough to qualify for permanent residence?

Is retirement a permanent-residence category?
