Thailand visa exemption: check your passport, then your stay.
The general Thailand tourism exemption gives eligible passport holders up to 30 days from 15 September 2026. A further stay of up to 30 days may be granted by Immigration. Passport-specific bilateral arrangements differ. Check the entry stamp and the current official list before planning an extension in Pattaya.

What changed, and who needs a different check
The Royal Thai Embassy in Washington publishes a 30-day tourism exemption for the listed 60 countries and territories, effective 15 September 2026. It describes a possible extension of no more than 30 days, decided by Immigration. This replaces the broad 60-day scheme; an older PDF labelled July 2024 is historical evidence, not the current general rule.
That headline does not determine every traveller’s permission. Ordinary, diplomatic and official passports can fall under different arrangements, and bilateral exemptions must be checked separately. Use the nationality and passport category in the responsible embassy’s current list. The date granted on your own arrival record matters for your present stay.
For nationality-specific context, continue with the China-to-Thailand entry guide or the Russia-to-Thailand entry guide. Each retains its own sources and review date.
Before you travel
- Match your passport and purpose to the current official exemption list. An exemption is not a visa application.
- Check the official entry conditions, including evidence of the visit and departure plans. Washington currently lists funds equivalent to THB 20,000 per person or THB 40,000 per family for its tourism-exemption guidance.
- Check the separate TDAC arrival-card process. An arrival card does not grant entry or extend a stay.
- If an exemption does not fit the trip, investigate a TR tourist visa before travelling.
Extending a visa-exempt stay in Pattaya
An extension is an application inside Thailand, not a new border admission. Check the admitted-until date and your entry category before preparing the documents. The tourist-stay extension guide separates the national baseline from the local evidence that still needs confirmation.
For the Chonburi office, use the Jomtien visit guide. Published opening periods do not establish the day’s queue, holiday access or a guaranteed completion time. No current official universal Jomtien checklist or live queue estimate has been authenticated for this page.
Repeat entries and conflicting older notices
A trip out of Thailand does not guarantee another admission. The London embassy’s September notice states a twice-per-calendar-year restriction in broad terms. The underlying entry rules and passport exceptions need to be read with the applicable official notice. Do not convert a short embassy summary into an assurance that two entries are guaranteed.
The border-run and extension guide preserves the distinction between the legal checkpoint rule and entry screening. Where source wording differs, the difference stays visible.
