Best Thailand visas under ฿50,000/year
Mid-budget Thailand visa options between the bare-minimum tier and the premium tier.
The ฿20-50k bracket
This is the sweet spot for foreigners who want a real visa + insurance + agent assistance but don't need premium-tier stability.
1. DTV with insurance ride-along — ฿20-40k/yr
DTV ฿2k/yr amortised + Cigna Global / BUPA insurance ฿20-40k/yr depending on age and health. Comfortable safety net for foreign-income remote workers.
2. Education ED at quality school — ฿20-50k/yr
Tuition ฿18-45k/yr at properly MOE-accredited schools (Walen, Inlingua, Pyramid Yoga, etc.). Visa extension ฿1,900. Real attendance required.
3. Retirement Non-O with light agent — ฿15-35k/yr
Annual extension ฿1,900 + ฿15-30k for Pattaya visa agent handling paperwork. Plus ฿800k bank lock (one-time setup, not annual).
4. Marriage Non-O with light agent — ฿15-25k/yr
Annual extension + agent. Plus ฿400k bank lock setup.
5. SMART Visa — typically free for accepted applicants
Application processing free, but BOI endorsement paperwork often involves ฿20-50k legal/accounting fees.
What we recommend in this bracket
If you have foreign income — DTV + Cigna Global. If you are 50+ retired — Retirement Non-O with light agent. If you are Thai-married — Marriage Non-O. If you are tech-credentialed — try SMART (the fee paperwork can be cheap if you self-apply).
